Surgical Weight Loss Options

Bariatric surgery may be an option for people who are severely obese, suffer from weight-related health problems and cannot lose weight by traditional methods. Surgery promotes weight loss by restricting food intake or by interrupting the digestive process.

To qualify for bariatric surgery, you must:

  • be 100 pounds or more overweight
  • have a Body Mass Index (BMI) over 40 (click here to calculate your BMI)
  • have a BMI of 35-40 with obesity-related health conditions
  • have made multiple attempts to lose weight by non-surgical means
